For those sportier amongst you, we’ve more challenging itineraries to admire the diversity of all that Fayence has to offer
For those more sporty of our guests you can venture off along signposted routes ranging from 9km to 19km: we’ve 14 circuits “walks and hikes” in and around Fayence. These circuits are accredited by the local equivalent of the Regional Ramblers Association and are recognised for their variety, unusual sights and historic sites and are well worth a visit. This walking area extends from the coastal “Esterel” area right up to the inland area of Mont Lachens and offers you the opportunity to really get under the skin of the Fayence area: lakes, mediaeval hillside villages steeped in history and the diversity of vegetation, typical of our region.
For the more avid sportspeople amongst you, it’s possible to set off on a 50km circular walk, signposted red and amber in terms of difficulty, which can be completed in around 3 days: known as the Country GR. Accessible to everyone year-round the beauty of this walk lies in its diversity: hills, plains, rivers, gorges and pastures planted with olive trees, pine trees or mighty oaks. This walk lets you discover the heritage of the 7 mediaeval villages perches on the hillsides around Fayence where you can eat and stay in style – at Le Mas des Romarins of course!
You can buy a compendium of the 14 “Promenades et Randonnés” as well as the GRP routes “Grande Randonnée de Pays” (Great Country Walks), classified by level and difficulty, from any local Tourist Office or the “Maison du Lac” for €9.90
Gliding
Glide Fayence and soar to new heights…
Fayence has a very good reputation world-wide for the quality of its gliding. We’ve an amazing location with some truly breathtaking scenery over, the Alpes Maritimes and French Riviera. With a bit of luck you might see us at the pool as the gliders fly over us on their approach to the landing strip just up the road! We’re in the process of arranging gliding packages with the local club, so why not enquire and take to our local skies for an unforgettable holiday?
The local air-strip is less than 1.5km away, so why not treat yourself to a familiarisation flight with an instructor? You’ll get a briefing in the morning and, weather permitting, get to soar over the beautiful hills and plains of Fayence and its stunning countryside surroundings.
Lake Saint-Cassien
If you can tear yourselves away from your understated, luxurious B&B accommodation at the Mas des Romarins, at just over 20 minutes away is one of the most popular attractions in and around Fayence. The Lac de St Cassien offers almost 1500 acres of stunning forests and emerald waters, complemented by a rich selection of flora and fauna. Spread across four districts within the surrounds of Fayence: Tanneron, Callian, Les Adrets de l’Esterel and Montauroux.
On and around the lake, dozens of activities are on offer. Firstly why not try one of the many aquatic sports and activities available: from kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding, to rowing, sailing, pedallos, catamaraning or giant inflatables on the water, a myriad of choices for all tastes and levels of ability whether you’re away with friends or family, the choice is yours.
On the shores of the lake why not discover the great fishing on offer, St Cassien is renowned as being one of the best European destinations for Perch and Pike, rumour has it the lake boasts some of the largest specimens on offer!
For the more sporty amongst you, there’s a trekking circuit of some 16km that winds its way around the lake and through the forest offering glimpse of the flora and fauna on offer in this protected area. If a shorter walk is more up your street, there is a half hour’s walk through the Fondurane park, which is managed by the regional CEN (Conservation of natural areas within the PACA region), which offers shelter for some 180 species of birds as well as rare types of oak tree.
Some activity centres around the lake also offer electric mountain bike hire or even horse riding around the lake’s myriad of tracks.
On the other hand if you’re looking for a more relaxed and chilled time around the lake, there are several beaches, well equipped with sun loungers, lifeguarded bathing, sunbathing opportunities and of course lunch with your feet in the water.
The Côte d’Azur & the Mediterranean sea

Whether it’s diving and exploring our marine life you are after, or dolphin watching, boat rental, trips out to sea, water skiing, wake-boarding, jet-skiing, parascending, fly-boarding we have it all. Windsurfing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, rowing and of course pedallos are all also available for your delight and delectation along the Var coastline.
The Gorges & rivers
Fayence and its surrounding areas is teaming with rivers, streams and gorges to be enjoyed as you discover our wonderful region and our surrounding villages. To escape the heat of high summer and enjoy a moment’s delicious coolness, why not take a dip in the nearby Siagne river – with its year-round temperature of 12 degrees it’s a guaranteed wake-you-up !
At just 20 minutes away from the Mas des Romarins, you can discover the stunning Gorges du Blavet, the Siagne river in its many guises as well as the Siagnole. Streams and rivers with greens and blues of many hues are to be savoured, framed by striking landscapes. From waterfalls, caves, natural bridges we have it all on offer, with walks for all levels through this part of paradise.
There are guides on sale at local tourist offices and we’ve plenty to suggest as well as guides of our own, that you can borrow. Why not discover for yourselves our mini-canyons, vestiges of watermills past, parts of aqueducts dating form the first century, numerous waterfalls and the magical Pont des Tuves.
A little further afield, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence area is the largest canyon in Europe: The Verdon Gorges. It’s a unique site of outstanding natural beauty that stretches for almost 100km. The gorges and their surroundings are a true playground for adults and children alike, of all sporting abilities. On offer you will find walks of various levels of difficulty, mountainbiking, rapids swimming, rock climbing, canoeing and kayaking and even paragliding. The lakes at the mouth of the gorges offer an exceptional water quality, with clean shores that offer the perfect antidote to the activities with great sandy beaches to relax, chill and picnic.

The Passion Partnership visits
This is one of our top recommendations for this season and our current “favourite thing”. It is the brainchild of our innovative local Tourist Office, who have set up a series of free daily visits throughout the week to workshops, ateliers and places of work for local artisan producers and craftspeople throughout the area. They will share with you their passion and savoir-faire for their given trade or craft be they artists, farmers or smallholders, wine growers, perfumiers or any one of a number of other trades. They will share with you the rich heritage that makes Pays de Fayence such an amazing place to stay and visit.
Each day of the week there are several different visits, that are also repeated across the week, and which take place as small groups.

The events widget brought to you

Right across the summer season there’s a myriad of great musical and cultural events on offer across all 9 villages that make up the Pays de Fayence area. But being so spoiled for choice it can be difficult to find the perfect thing to go to. That’s why our local Tourist Office conceived their events widget, it is updated weekly and brings all of the latest goings-on across Pays de Fayence.
The lakehouse
Another experience not to be missed is the Lakehouse at Lac St Cassien, which is managed again by our local Tourist Office.
The on-site team will be delighted to offer advice and guidance on what to see and do right across the 9 hillside villages of Pays de Fayence as well as one the lake itself.
Open all year (Weds – Sun from November until February) and 7 days a week in peak season and during school holidays the Lakehouse offers a warm welcome to the area, guided tours and bookshop as well as a ticketing service for local events. You can also buy fishing permits and use their free WiFi on-site. Also not to be missed is the Ponton restaurant with an amazing deck overlooking the lake and water sports centre with its private beach down below.
